Dr. Abnous A. Samford is a native of Tallahassee, Florida where she attended Leon High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1996. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology and a Minor in Business Administration. She then went on to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. While at UAB, Dr. Samford earned several awards for her academic and clinical excellence, including the Vision Service Plan Scholarship Award for Excellence in Primary Care. She graduated Cum Laude with her Doctor of Optometry degree from UAB in 2004.
Dr. Samford is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association, Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, and the Birmingham Area Optometric Society, where she served as President in 2009. She has also served on the Advisory Board of Vision America and is a current member of the Hoover Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Samford has volunteered on mission trips to Mountain City, TN and to Honduras where she provided eye care in rural areas.
Dr Samford and her husband, James, have 2 children and enjoy traveling in their spare time.
