COVID-19 UPDATE

To Our Patient Family:

We are constantly monitoring the recommendations of the CDC, American Optometric Association, and Alabama Board of Optometry and Optometric Association. As of Tuesday evening, March 17th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended all routine eye care be deferred until further notice in order to slow the transmission of COVID-19 throughout our community. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our services to urgent/emergency eye care at this time.

Although the physical office will be closed, we will remain available to triage eye emergencies as well as help you with routine matters during this challenging time. We will be available to answer questions, place contact lens orders, and schedule urgent/emergency patients by phone or email from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM M-F. Outside these hours, please call and listen to the voicemail for instructions.

Routine Eye Exams:
If you are scheduled for a routine eye examination in the coming weeks, we will call and reschedule your appointment on an as needed basis.

Glasses:
Please contact us. We may be able to extend your prescription during this time and will
help you with your eyewear needs. If you have glasses ordered or ready for pick up, we
will be offering curbside pick up at the office by appointment.

Contact Lenses:
Please contact us. We may be able to extend your prescription during this time and/or
place an order for your contact lenses and have them shipped directly to you.

Prescription Refills:
Please contact us. We can transmit a refill for your prescription directly to your
pharmacy so that you have the medications that you need.

Eye Problems/Emergencies:
Drs. Marbourg & Samford will still be available for red eyes, injuries and other urgent
issues as well as any other questions that may arise for both new and established
patients. If you are having an eye issue, please contact us and we will schedule a
FaceTime or Telephone appointment with one of our doctors as needed. Medicare has
temporarily relaxed it’s telehealth rules to allow for this type of care during the pandemic.
Other insurers may follow suit and allow for reimbursement of virtual care costs. The
consultation must be initiated at your request.

As always, we are here for you if you need us. Do not hesitate to call (205-985-7640) or
email us ([email protected]) with any questions or concerns. Thank you for allowing us to continue to care for all your eye care needs. Stay safe and healthy!

Sincerely,

Dr. Robin Marbourg and Dr. Abnous Samford
